Many plug brands offer prebuilt integrations that authenticate via single sign-on.

If you are buying new plugs with this in mind, check the box for explicit platform support before making a purchase. A plug that lists Works with Alexa, Works with Google Home, or Works with Apple HomeKit on the packaging will connect cleanly and remain connected through firmware updates. Third-party compatibility claims from lesser-known brands can be unreliable over time.
